McCARTHY, Cormac. No Country for Old Men. (Signed First Edition, First Impression)

AUTOGRAPH BOOK CLUB COPY

New York: Alfred A. Knopf, 2005. First edition, first impression. 8vo. 309pp. Black cloth, spine lettered in gilt, in the original red pictorial dust jacket. A fine copy. Signed by Cormac McCarthy on the specially inserted leaf. One of a small number of copies of the first trade edition prepared with a signed leaf, reportedly fewer than 300 copies completed from an originally intended limitation of 500.

Providence: This copy was distributed through Denver’s celebrated Tattered Cover Book Store as part of its Autograph Book Club, and retains the contemporary gold “Autographed Copy” and embossed “Tattered Cover” labels on the dust jacket, providing particularly attractive provenance for the signature.

Published in 2005, No Country for Old Men is among McCarthy’s most acclaimed novels, a powerful exploration of violence, fate and morality set against the landscape of the American Southwest. It was adapted by Joel and Ethan Coen into the celebrated 2007 film, winner of four Academy Awards including Best Picture.

A particularly desirable signed first edition, with contemporary Tattered Cover provenance.
