London: The Pilot Press, 1948. First edition. pp. [iv], 256. Original orange cloth, titled in black. A fine copy in near fine and rare dust jacket. Very rare. The author once wrote that this book was not only the best but the only authentic account of life as it was lived in Ireland this [20th] century: “a man should not be afraid to tell the truth, even when it is in favour of himself”. Given the careful qualifications, that is not an idle brag.” The first edition of Tarry Flynn was initially banned in Ireland but later, for unknown reasons, the ban was lifted. The Pilot Press was declared bankrupt before the ban was lifted, so copies are extremely rare.
