FN: Edna O’Brien (1930–2024) was among the most influential Irish writers of the twentieth century. Her debut novel, The Country Girls (1960), was banned in Ireland, yet established her international reputation. Over a long career she produced novels, memoirs, plays, and short stories noted for their lyrical prose and fearless treatment of women’s lives, sexuality, memory, and Irish identity. Signed limited editions of her later works were issued in comparatively small numbers and are now scarce in commerce.
