COPAC locates 2 copies only. Inscribed in pencil on front endpaper 'Printed in the type of Richard Watts probably under Edward O'Reilly's direction. O'Reilly considered it a beautiful example of Irish type.' Henry Monck Mason was very involved in the Hibernian Bible Society in the early part of the nineteenth century. He related that after much consideration the Society decided that it should publish all the Scriptures in the Irish language and character. The Report of the Committee examining this appear in the Appendix to their Annual Report for the year 1824, where the necessary funds were made available and the committee of the British and Foreign Bible Society subscribed £300. They lauded the new type from Mr. Watts of London which was the most correct and beautiful models from ancient MSS. A Footnote states "This type has been everywhere approved." Edward O'Reilly stated: In the year 1818 a new edition of the New Testament was published in London, by the British and Foreign Bible Society, on beautiful Irish types, but either through the ignorance or the negligence of the editor or perhaps through both, the errors of this edition are innumerable." The Watts type was extensively used both in England and Ireland during the remainder of the nineteenth century. It was also used by the Achill Mission Press to print Revd. William Neilson's An Introduction to the Irish Language.
