Full green morocco over bevelled boards, covers framed by triple gilt and dotted lines with decorative Celtic interlacing. Spine divided into six panels by five gilt bands, title in gilt direct in the second, the remainder tooled in gilt to a centre and corner design; board edges and turn-ins gilt; comb-marbled endpapers; red and green endpapers. All edges gilt. A near fine copy.

Rev. Henry Cooke (1788-1868), Presbyterian minister, was born in Grillagh Co. Derry and educated at Glasgow. He campaigned repeatedly against O’Connell’s Irish policy. He was instrumental in establishing the Free Church of Scotland and was totally against disestablishment.
