Rev. William Ball Wright (1845-1929), antiquary, genealogist, and clergyman, devoted many years to researching the history and descent of the numerous Ball families established throughout Britain, Ireland, and North America. Drawing upon family papers, parish records, wills, heraldic sources, and private correspondence, he compiled an impressive genealogical study tracing the origins, migrations, and interconnections of the various branches of the family. The enlarged second edition incorporates substantial additional material, including pedigrees, illustrations, and extensive genealogical tables, making it an indispensable reference work for descendants and historians alike.

Privately printed in a limited edition for circulation among family members and interested subscribers, the work was never intended for wide public distribution and is consequently of considerable rarity. The Ball family occupied a prominent place in the civic, commercial, and political life of Ireland for several centuries, particularly in Dublin, where successive generations served as merchants, aldermen, and public officials. An important contribution to Irish genealogical literature. JISC locates only eight copies of this enlarged second edition, attesting to its scarcity.
