London: Harrison, 1912. Royal octavo. pp. iv, 786. Red cloth over bevelled boards, titled in gilt. Royal Cypher on upper cover. Top edge gilt. A very good copy. Rare.
This is the most sought after edition of the Landed Gentry of Ireland series of books which were published at the close of the nineteenth and the beginning of the twentieth century. Due to the War of Independence in 1921, several families were burnt out or left Ireland for good. This resulted in no further editions of these publications until 1958, which makes the present volume an invaluable historical and genealogical reference work. Every coat-of-arms has been carefully scrutinised and compared with the original records in Ulster’s Office.
