The Northern Banking Company Limited was one of Ireland's most important historic banks, playing a central role in Irish banking, commerce, and economic development from the late nineteenth century until the twentieth century. Founded in Belfast in 1824, it expanded rapidly across Ireland, serving businesses, farmers, and private customers through an extensive branch network. The bank became renowned for issuing its own banknotes, financing industry, agriculture, and trade, and supporting regional economic growth. Following a series of mergers, it eventually became part of Danske Bank.
