The first 49 years bound in half green morocco on cloth boards, some with Galwey and Temple Press bookbinders’ labels. The remaining issues in original printed wrappers. A very good near complete set of this exceedingly rare scholarly journal.

The Galway Archaeological and Historical Society (GAHS) was founded on the 21st March 1900 at the Railway Hotel, Galway to promote the study of the archaeology and history of the west of Ireland. The inaugural address was given by Most Rev. J. Healy, D.D. (Vice President). Members listed in the first issue were drawn mainly from the Landed Gentry and Clergy of County Galway and included: Sir. H. Grattan Bellew, Sir Valentine Blake, Sir Henry Burke, Rev. Wm. Carrigan, Lord and Lady Clonbrock, Dr. Costello of Tuam, Col. Daly, Lord Walter FitzGerald, Lady Gregory, E. Festus Kelly, H.T. Knox, Major Lynch, Most Rev. F.J. McCormack, Most Rev. J. McEvilly, Edward Martyn, Lord Morris and Killanin, Col. Nolan, Miss M. Redington, P. Chenevix Thench, The Duchess de Stacpoole, etc. Since 1900 the Society has published 77 volumes of its journal with contributions from leading scholars and academics and is still thriving to this day.
