This branch of the Molyneux family sprung originally, it is supposed; from Sir Thomas Molineux, second son of Sir William Molyneux, of Sefton, Knight Banneret. The immediate ancestor was Sir Thomas Molyneux, Knight, born in Calais in 1581, who was sent to Ireland by Queen Elizabeth in 1576 as Chancellor of the Exchequer, and received extensive grants of lands.
