Cork: Munster Motor Cycle & Car Club, 1958. Octavo. pp. 40. Illustrated throughout with photographs, advertisements and line drawings. Original pictorial red, cream and black wrappers, priced 1/-. A very good copy.

Official programme for the third Cork Veteran Run, organised by the Munster Motor Cycle & Car Club. The event became an established fixture for enthusiasts of veteran and vintage cars and motorcycles in Ireland.

The programme contains full lists of entrants arranged by class, including veteran cars to 1910, cars of 1911–1916, vintage cars of 1917–1923 and 1924–1930, together with veteran and vintage motorcycles. Marques represented include Wolseley, Sizaire-Naudin, Renault, N.A.G., Rover, Minerva, Austin, Rolls-Royce, Ford, Bianchi, Citroën, Humber, Buick, Fiat, Bentley, Singer, MG, Studebaker, Sunbeam, Triumph and Raleigh.

Of particular interest is the article “The First Cork Veteran Run”, recording the origins of the event in 1956, together with a piece entitled “The Ford Country”, discussing Henry Ford’s family connections with County Cork and the Bandon–Ballinascarty–Clonakilty area. Also included are details of the route and timetable, awards and perpetual trophies, and numerous contemporary Cork commercial advertisements.

The route began at Cork City Hall, continuing through Ballincollig, Bandon and Clonakilty, with a return journey via Timoleague and Bandon, followed the next day by a run to Kinsale.

An attractive and uncommon piece of Irish motoring ephemera, particularly desirable for collectors of Cork history, Irish motor racing and motoring history, veteran and vintage cars, classic motorcycles, Henry Ford memorabilia and Munster Motor Cycle & Car Club material. A substantial early programme preserving a detailed record of the cars, motorcycles, owners, routes and motoring culture surrounding the Cork Veteran Run in the 1950s.
