The O’Reilly clan trace their descent from Conn of the Hundred Battles and take their name circa 1014 A.D. from O’Raghallach. Their patrimony straddled the Cavan - Leitrim border making up the territory known as Breifne O’Reilly. They were inaugurated kings on the Hill of Shantemon in Cavan an ancient Druid worship place. They were noted ecclesiastics and five members of the clan held the Primacy as Archbishop of Armagh.
