The final act in the drama occasioned by the publication of the earl of Castlehaven’s memoirs was played out in London with the earl of Anglesey being removed from his post as Lord Privy-Seal. In defence of his decision to publish what was clearly a leaked document, the editor writes:
""The more fatal such quarrels amongst great personages are to either side, the more instructive they commonly prove to the rest of mankind, who are thereby let into a prospect of those things which were thought too sacred for the view of the profane vulgar""." ORMOND, James Duke of.
