London: Printed for John Stockdale, Piccadilly, 1800. Second edition. pp. 148. Green pebbled cloth, title in gilt along spine. Early owner's signature on titlepage. A very good copy. Scarce. "In August, 1798 one thousand French troops under the command of General Humbert landed near Killala on the west coast of Ireland, to be joined by over three thousand local men eager to strike a blow for their country's freedom. The author's home became the headquarters of the insurgent army. Following a whirlwind campaign the combined force was defeated at Ballinamuck.

Joseph Stock (1740-1813), Bishop of Killala became a prisoner of the French under General Humbert. He kept a diary of these momentous events which was first published in 1799." STOCK, Bishop.
