COLLINS, Michael. GRIFFITH, Arthur & OTHERS Historic Peace Treaty. An attractive poster print carrying the full text of the Anglo-Irish Treaty of 6 December 1921, Clauses 1-18 and annexes, with sub-headings, with reproduced signatures and photographs of the delegates, below crossed green and gold flags with ‘FF’ device and the motto ‘Sinn Fein Abu’, the entire within an elaborate green-and-gold Celtic-style surround, with heraldic devices for Ireland and England at head. No printer, no date, but undoubtedly an Irish production from a pro-Treaty source. 53 x 40.5cms, well framed and glazed in gilt within a cream window mount, a clean copy in fine condition. Evidently intended for display, perhaps in an embassy or legation. A very rare and attractive item.
Included in the medallion portraits on the Irish side: E. Duggan, Michael Collins, Arthur Griffith, A.C. Barton, G. Duffy; On the British side: Lord Birkenhead, Sir Hamar Greenwood, Austin Chamberlain, Lloyd George, Sir L. Worthington Evans, Winston Churchill and Sir Gordon Hewart. In May 1922 Hewart was closely involved in the drafting of the Constitution of the Irish Free State. He worked closely with his Irish counterpart, Hugh Kennedy in May 1922 to finalise the text in time for elections the following month.
