General view of O’Connell Street showing the destruction after the bombardment.
A strong group illustrating both the destruction of Sackville Street (now O’Connell Street) and scenes of British soldiers during operations in Dublin. Includes examples from the Valentine’s Series (Dundee) and other contemporary British and Irish publishers. All unused, versos with standard postcard layout, some with printed imprints “Valentine’s Series” or “Lawrence, Dublin.” A well-preserved group.
Picture postcards of the 1916 Easter Rising were rapidly produced by both Irish and British publishers in the immediate aftermath of the rebellion, serving as both propaganda and souvenir. Firms such as Valentine’s of Dundee and Lawrence of Dublin issued photographic series capturing ruined streets, barricades, and the aftermath of shelling. While individual cards are relatively common, coherent groups such as the present set provide a vivid visual record of events and remain highly collectable. Sets like this, particularly in good condition and unused, are scarce in commerce and valued by both postcard and Easter Rising collectors.
