[CHAPBOOK] James Talbot; or, The Importance of Recollecting. "God sees me at all times". Woodcut title and frontispiece. Dublin: Printed by Bentham and Hardy, Cecilia -street, 1826. 12mo. pp. 72. A fine copy in original stitched printed wrappers. Exceedingly rare.

Only 1 copy located on COPAC.

Chapbooks literally meant cheap books for mass circulation and were sold by 'Booksellers, Chapmen & Hawkers in Town and Country', at the price of a halfpenny or a penny each, i.e. subsidised by the Cheap Repository for Religious and Moral Tracts. This agency, it seems, had links with the Association for the Discountenancing of Vice, an evangelical movement recently founded in Dublin to counteract the circulation of Godless and subversive literature. Both organisations were inspired by the success of Hannah More and her penny publications in England.
