A posthumous gathering of shorter fictions and sketches by C. J. Kickham (1828-1882), Fenian activist, journalist and author of the classic Knocknagow; or, The Homes of Tipperary (1879). Drawn largely from nineteenth-century periodicals, these pieces return to Kickham’s native county to depict fairs andfarmhouses, petty tyrannies and neighbourly decencies, in the humane, humorous style that made Knocknagow the best-loved Irish novel of its era.
