One of the most charming and rarer of Rosamond Praeger’s illustrated children’s books, recounting the adventures of a group of anthropomorphic animal characters on a holiday excursion to the seaside. Praeger, celebrated as both sculptor and illustrator, was among the most distinctive figures in Irish art during the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, and her lively pen-and-ink drawings display the wit and imagination that made her children’s books enduring favourites. An attractive and increasingly very scarce example of her work in the original pictorial binding.
