1980 – Gaillimh v. Luimneach, 7 Meán Fómhair. Galway ended a 57-year famine with a famous win.
1981 – Gaillimh v. Uíbh Fhailí, 6 Meán Fómhair. Offaly’s first ever All-Ireland Senior Hurling title.
1982 – Cill Chainnigh v. Corcaigh, 5 Meán Fómhair. Kilkenny victorious in a classic.
1983 – Cill Chainnigh v. Corcaigh, 4 Meán Fómhair. Kilkenny retained their crown.
1984 – Corcaigh v. Uíbh Fhailí, 2 Meán Fómhair. Centenary Year Final, uniquely staged at Semple Stadium, Thurles.
1985 – Uíbh Fhailí v. Gaillimh, 1 Meán Fómhair. Offaly emerged champions.
1986 – Corcaigh v. Gaillimh, 7 Meán Fómhair. Cork claimed Liam MacCarthy once more.
1987 – Cill Chainnigh v. Gaillimh, 6 Meán Fómhair. Galway secured glory.
1988 – Gaillimh v. Tiobraid Árann, 4 Meán Fómhair. Galway retained their title.
