Dublin was crowned All-Ireland Champions in the same year
An original black-and-white team photograph, 200 x 250mm. Depicting the Dublin senior hurling team prior to the 1927 Leinster Senior Hurling Championship Final against Meath. The photograph is mounted on its original card, which bears the contemporary manuscript title “Leinster Final – Dublin v Meath – Inter-County Hurling Championship”, together with the inscriptions “1927” and “Dublin Team.”
The 1927 season proved one of the finest in Dublin hurling history. Having overcome Meath to secure the Leinster Championship, Dublin advanced to the All-Ireland Final where they defeated Cork by 4–8 to 1–3, capturing their fifth All-Ireland Senior Hurling title. The victory also secured Dublin’s fourteenth Leinster Championship, cementing the side’s place among the great Dublin teams of the inter-war period.
Original silver gelatin photograph, approximately 145 × 100 mm, mounted on contemporary card measuring approximately 255 × 205 mm, with manuscript title and captions in black ink. Light age toning and minor surface marks to the mount, otherwise very good. A scarce surviving contemporary image documenting one of Dublin’s greatest championship-winning teams and an important piece of early G.A.A. photographic history.
This is stronger than an ordinary team photograph because it is contemporary, captioned, and relates directly to a championship-winning Dublin side that went on to win the 1927 All-Ireland. If the players were individually identified, or if there were photographer’s details or signatures, the value would move into the €900–€1,200 range. At €650, I think it would be well priced for De Búrca Rare Books.
