Original green cloth, blind-stamped on covers to a Celtic design, title and author in gilt on spine. A very good copy. Edmund Ignatius Hogan, S.J. (1831-1917) was a Cork born Jesuit scholar. Having received an education in Belgium, France and Rome he returned to Ireland to teach languages in a variety of institutions including Clongowes Wood College, Sacred Heart College Limerick, and University College Dublin. He was also Todd Professor of Celtic at the Royal Irish Academy. The Onomasticon Goedelicum is a seminal work on the history of Irish place and tribal names and complements previous work done in this area by Colgan, O‟Donovan and Reeves.
