Sold Out
An original manuscript receipt in the hand of Arthur Griffith, acknowledging receipt from Frank Ahern of the sum of £13 5s., dated 15 September 1921, and signed with Griffith’s initials/signature. Mounted beneath is a contemporary memorial card for Arthur Griffith, recording his death in Dublin on 12 August 1922, aged 50. (Overall size 265 x 210mm)
The receipt dates from a particularly significant period in Griffith’s career, only weeks after the Truce of July 1921 and shortly before the Anglo-Irish Treaty negotiations in London. Griffith, founder of Sinn Féin and one of the principal figures in the Irish independence movement, subsequently led the Irish delegation during the Treaty negotiations.
The manuscript shows some old folds. The memorial card well preserved. Both mounted together on green felt and housed in a modern glazed frame.
An evocative association piece combining a signed document by Arthur Griffith with a contemporary memorial card issued following his death less than a year later.
