London: Stanley Paul, 1970. First edition. Publisher’s original red cloth, titled in gilt to spine, in the original pictorial dust-jacket. A good to very good copy, the jacket worn at the extremities, internally clean.
The book has been personally signed by Bill Shankly, Bob Paisley, Joe Fagan, Kenny Dalglish, Gérard Houllier, Phil Thompson, Emlyn Hughes, Ian Rush, Roy Hodgson, Avi Cohen, Albert Stubbins, Ron Yeats, Ian St John, among others.
Albert Stubbins was a prolific English centre-forward, starring for Liverpool in the 1940s and key to their 1946–47 title. He later gained pop culture fame as the only footballer pictured on Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band album cover by The Beatles.
An exceptional association copy, extensively signed by members of the great Liverpool FC sides of the late 1960s and early 1970s. The volume itself, edited by Derek Hodgson with a foreword by Shankly, is a contemporary account of Liverpool’s rise to dominance under Shankly, documenting one of the most transformative periods in English football history. Copies bearing such a concentration of key figures—particularly including both Shankly and Paisley—are distinctly uncommon and highly desirable.
A remarkable signed survival from the club’s golden era.
