Small oblong autograph album, c. late 1950s–1970s, red covers, containing numerous ink signatures across coloured leaves (pink, cream, blue), each carefully identified in a contemporary hand beneath the autograph. Very good. Ink signatures bold and well-preserved throughout. Minor wear to covers; internally clean with only light handling marks.
Signatures include: Sir Matt Busby, Bobby Charlton, Denis Law, Paddy Crerand; Martin Buchan; Tommy Docherty; George Graham; David Sadler; Alex Stepney; Ian Donaldson; Ted MacDougall; Carlo Sartori; Jimmy Murphy; Trevor Anderson; Lou Macari; Willie Morgan; Damien Ferguson. 40 in total.
A substantial and well-compiled Manchester United autograph album, spanning a particularly rich period in the club’s history from the Busby era into the 1970s. The presence of key figures such as Crerand, Stepney, and Sadler firmly anchors the collection in the celebrated 1968 European Cup-winning side, while later players including Macari, Buchan, and Morgan reflect the club’s subsequent rebuilding phase.
Particularly noteworthy is the inclusion of Jimmy Murphy, Busby’s indispensable assistant and the man who guided the team through the immediate aftermath of the Munich Air Disaster. Albums retaining Murphy’s signature alongside those of the later United sides are scarce and desirable. Such albums, assembled contemporaneously and with careful identifications, offer both historical coherence and strong visual display value, increasingly uncommon in the market.
The album spans multiple Manchester United squads, rather than a single-season team issue, enhancing its breadth and collecting appeal. Identifications appear contemporary and are a valuable aid in authentication and presentation. The inclusion of a separate George Best signature significantly elevates desirability and market value.
