A rare surviving celebratory menu issued in honour of the Mayo team following their triumph in the 1951 All-Ireland Senior Football Championship—one of the most storied victories in Gaelic football history. Held at the Railway Hotel, Westport, the evening reflects both civic pride and the deep cultural significance of the GAA in post-independence Ireland.

The menu offers a period snapshot of mid-century Irish hospitality: Tomato Cocktail; Kidney Soup; Lobster Mayonnaise; Chicken and Ham; Peas and Cabbage; Potatoes; Trifle and Wine Jellies; Tea and Coffee. Toasts are listed to “The Republic of Ireland”, “The Association”, and “The Champions”, encapsulating the intertwining of sport, nationalism, and community identity.

The rear panel bears contemporary manuscript inscriptions, including names such as Mick Flanagan and Paddy Prendergast (the latter captain of the Mayo team), suggesting attendance or later ownership with direct personal association to the team or event.

The 1951 Mayo team famously secured back-to-back All-Ireland titles (1950–51), defeating Meath in the final. The subsequent folklore surrounding the team—particularly the so-called “Mayo curse”—has only heightened the historical resonance of this period. Ephemeral items such as post-match dinner menus are seldom preserved, especially with named associations, making this a scarce and evocative piece of GAA social history.

This modest printed programme records a moment of celebration that has since assumed extraordinary historical significance: the 1951 victory remains the last occasion on which Mayo have won the All-Ireland Senior Football Championship.
