Brooklyn, first published in 2009, is Tóibín’s acclaimed novel of emigration, love, and exile, following the life of Eilis Lacey, a young Irish woman who leaves her native Enniscorthy for New York in the 1950s. Winner of the 2009 Costa Novel Award and shortlisted for the Man Booker Prize, it was later adapted into the Academy Award-nominated film (2015) starring Saoirse Ronan.
