Including Poems in Prose with Notes, Bibliographical Introduction, Index and Facsimiles of Title-Pages. Portland, Maine: Thomas B. Mosher, 1908. First Mosher edition. Limited to 750 copies printed on Van Gelder hand-made paper. 8vo, pp. xxiv, 394, [2], with portrait frontispiece and seven leaves of plates, including facsimiles.
Finely bound in full red crushed morocco, boards ruled in gilt, raised bands to spine with compartments elaborately tooled in gilt, title lettered directly in gilt, decorative gilt turn-ins, marbled endpapers and silk ribbon marker. Some light rubbing to extremities and minor age-toning, otherwise a very attractive copy.
An elegant limited edition of Wilde’s poetry, issued only eight years after his death. The volume brings together his principal verse and poems in prose, supplemented by a substantial bibliographical apparatus and reproductions of earlier title-pages. Among the works represented are The Ballad of Reading Gaol, The Sphinx, Ravenna and The House of Pomegranates.
The edition was one of just 750 copies, printed on Van Gelder hand-made paper, with the type distributed following printing in September 1908. The handsome contemporary-style full morocco binding considerably enhances an edition more commonly encountered in its original boards.
