Original black-and-white photographic portrait (90 v 145mm) of Samuel Beckett, boldly signed in blue ink across the lower white margin. A striking head-and-shoulders image of the Nobel Prize-winning Irish playwright, novelist and poet, whose sparse, existential works, including Waiting for Godot, Endgame and Krapp’s Last Tape, transformed twentieth-century literature and theatre. Beckett was famously reserved and signed comparatively few photographs, making signed portrait images particularly desirable among literary collectors. The signature is strong and well positioned, complementing the austere, iconic image that has become synonymous with the author in his later years.
Photographic print. Approximately 255 × 205 mm. Light surface wear and minor handling marks, otherwise in very good condition. A handsome signed literary portrait suitable for framing.
