Elizabeth Corbet Yeats (1868-1940) worked as an art teacher in London before later establishing the Cuala Press with her brother W.B. Yeats. In this art instruction book she encourages the student to adopt a free and painterly style in the representation of flowers. Her brushwork teaching method may have been inspired by Christopher Dresser's book on Japan of 1882 in which he stresses the importance of mastering direct brushwork before pencil and pen work. However, her method was her own, and not strictly Froebelian. A London pupil of the 1890's remembered her: "she was attractive and a good teacher". With introduction by the author. Text on the verso of plates facing illustration.
