Bound by William Edwards of Halifax in their signature Etruscan style with acid stained decorative motifs and panels to boards with gilt border, spine with raised bands, title and volume number in gilt on black morocco labels; Etruscan motifs in blind to panels; board edges and turn-ins ruled in gilt. Splash-marbled endpapers. Signature of previous owner, John Maude, dated 1803 on titlepage. Armorial bookplate of Thomas Gaisford on pastedowns. Wear to spine-ends. Fine example from this renown bookbinder.
