A long-established Church of Ireland family resident across the barony during the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. Members of the Cole family appear as freeholders, magistrates, churchwardens and landholders under the larger West Cork estates, their interests centred in the hinterland of Skibbereen and along the peninsulas towards Schull and Baltimore. Through service and marriage they were interlinked with the local landed and mercantile community and figure frequently in parish, tithe and valuation records.
