A valuable and exhaustive history of the Irish ports, with a topographical and descriptive discussion placing their history in a broader context. There are chapters on the ancient history of Ireland, statistics on population and emigration, income and expenditure, inland navigation, railways, fisheries, Incumbered Estates Courts, Poor Laws, etc. The ports dealt with include: Dublin, Drogheda, Dundalk, Carlingford, Newry, Belfast, Coleraine, Londonderry, Sligo, Ballina, Blacksod, Newport, Westport, Galway, Limerick, Tralee, Baltimore, Cork, Waterford, New Ross, and Wexford.
