The present Diocese of Waterford and Lismore includes practically the whole County of Waterford, with two baronies, and portions of two others, of Tipperary County. The diocese is therefore roughly co-terminous with ancient Decies as the latter principality extended in the 12th century. In addition to the County of Waterford and the considerable area of Tipperary referred to, the diocese includes five small townlands of Co. Cork but, as if to counterbalance the five Co. Cork townlands, five small townlands of Co. Waterford form part of the parish of Leitrim in Cloyne Diocese.
