Dublin: Mahon, 1923. Original printed commemorative invitation card, issued for the first anniversary of Arthur Griffith and Michael Collins, marking their deaths in August 1922. Small format, folding card (approx. 110 × 75 mm closed), printed in black on pink stock, text in Irish and English. The front cover titled “Griffith – Collins Anniversary 1923”, with Irish-language heading above. Internally, the card invites attendance at the “Bothar Buadha Parade”, with the Minister for Defence requesting the presence of the named attendee at the presentation of the flag to the Army by the President at Phoenix Park, Wednesday, 22nd August 1923. In very good condition.
Completed in manuscript to W. J. Gough Esq. and friend, granting admission to a Special Enclosure—a notable survival, as most such ephemeral admission cards were discarded after use.
A rare and historically resonant piece of Irish Civil War-era ephemera, linking the early commemorative culture of the Free State with two of its founding figures. Such items, particularly named and used examples, are increasingly scarce and desirable to collectors of Irish political and military history.
