An engaging late nineteenth-century account of a journey through Ireland, beginning in Dublin and travelling through Wicklow, Waterford and Kilkenny, Cork, Killarney and Kerry, Limerick and Clare, Galway and Connemara, Achill, Sligo, Enniskillen, Donegal, the Giant’s Causeway and Belfast. The work is particularly attractive for its numerous illustrations of Irish scenery, architecture and everyday life, including Dublin street scenes, Glendalough, Gougane Barra, Killarney, Connemara and other notable locations. Written from the perspective of a continental visitor, Bovet combines travel observations with commentary on Irish society, religion and politics at a particularly significant period in the Home Rule era.
