This work contains the ballad ‘The Man from God Knows Where’ (William Russell), one of the greatest ballads of Irish history, set in county Down during the 1798 Rebellion and telling the story of the United Irishman, William Russell. Florence Mary Wilson was born in Lisburn, but spent most of her time in Bangor. She wrote on Ulster history and was committed to the revival of the Irish language. Her work was influenced by Irish archaeology and legend. She died in 1946.
