A half-length portrait depicting Shackleton standing with hands in pockets, dressed in dark suit and tie, taken during the final year of his life while promoting the Quest expedition. A striking portrait of one of the greatest figures of the Heroic Age of Antarctic Exploration. He died aboard the vessel at South Georgia on 5 January 1922, making photographs from this final period of his life especially evocative.
