HENDRICK, Charles. Autograph Receipted Trade Bill for Woollen Drapery.

Dublin: Woollen Drapers at the Sun, in High Street, 5 July 1759 (receipted 29 May 1763). Printed engraved trade bill, completed in manuscript and bearing an attractive engraved trade device depicting the radiant sun, the emblem of the business. Addressed to Edmund Hogan Esq., the account details the purchase of 4¾ yards of drab cloth, 6½ yards of fine serge, 2½ yards of fustian, together with trimming, amounting to £6 10s. 6d. The verso carries the signed receipt: “Rec’d the Contents of the within Bills in full of all accounts, by the Hands of Mr John Burke. Dublin May 29, 1763” signed Cha. Hendrick, while the face is additionally endorsed certifying payment through Mr John Burke. The document provides an excellent survival of an eighteenth-century Dublin mercantile transaction and illustrates the luxury textile trade centred on High Street during the Georgian period. 21 x 17 cm. Engraved letterpress trade bill completed in manuscript on laid paper with contemporary endorsements and receipt to verso. Some light age toning, minor marginal wear and small pinholes, otherwise a particularly clean and well- preserved example.
A handsome and visually striking example of an Irish engraved trade bill, combining fine commercial engraving with contemporary manuscript accounts and an uncommon fully receipted endorsement.
