The album, recorded across multiple performances in 1976–77 (including Hammersmith Odeon and the Seneca College Field House), is widely regarded as the definitive document of the band’s live power and stage presence.

Phil Lynott (1949–1986), Dublin-born, remains one of Ireland’s most iconic rock musicians and songwriters. As frontman of Thin Lizzy, he brought Irish identity into international rock culture, blending hard rock with narrative lyricism rooted in Irish history and mythology. Live and Dangerous (1978) is frequently ranked among the greatest live albums ever released. Though later debated for studio overdubs, its impact remains undiminished, cementing Thin Lizzy’s reputation globally.
