London: Bloomsbury, 1997. Octavo. pp. 223. First edition, paperback issue, twenty-sixth impression. Signed by Rowling on the title page. Original pictorial wrappers, spine rolled, wear to head of spine, faint creasing to wrappers, bumping to tips, faint damp-staining to half-title and title-page, short closed tear to final leaf. Housed in a full morocco solander box. A very sought after item.

Rare signed copies of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone are among the most valuable and sought-after items in modern book collecting. First published by Bloomsbury in 1997, this debut novel by J.K. Rowling quickly gained popularity, but only 500 hardcover copies were initially printed, primarily for libraries. Of these, very few were signed by Rowling, making signed first editions exceedingly rare. Signed copies from this original print run, especially those in good condition, have fetched extraordinary sums at auction, with some selling for over $100,000.

Later editions signed by Rowling are also valuable, though generally less so than the coveted first editions. Copies signed during book tours in the late 1990s and early 2000s are highly prized, especially if they include unique inscriptions, early signatures, or are dedicated to specific individuals. Collectors often seek books signed before Rowling's fame skyrocketed, as her early signature is markedly different from her later ones.

Additionally, some signed copies include special illustrations or doodles, adding even more collectible appeal. Given Rowling’s limited book signings in recent years, especially after the release of the final Harry Potter book, any signed Philosopher's Stone edition is a prized item for collectors and fans alike.
