An exact facsimile reprint of the First Edition (Dublin 1846) with a new introduction by William J. Hogan, Ph. D. Galway: Kenny’s, 1978. Quarto. pp. xiv, [13] (introduction), 469, 25. Bound by Des Smith at Antiquarian Bookcrafts in navy chieftain oasis, spine divided into four panels by five gilt raised bands, title in gilt on maroon morocco label in the second. Upper cover with inset of a map of ‘Iar Connaught’ in gilt on a vellum base surrounded with square gilt blocking. Edges of boards bevelled; gilt and blind stamped doublures; blue pattern endpapers; double gold and blue endbands. All edges gilt. A superb copy in solander box lined with blue marbled paper. Edition was possibly limited to 30 sets only.
New introduction by William J. Hogan, providing valuable information on Roderic O’Flaherty’s life and work. With a large folding genealogical table of the family of O’Flaherty of h-Iar Connaught showing their descent from Eochaidh Muighmeadhon, King of Connaught, afterwards Monarch of Ireland (qui ob. A.D. 366). Including the branches of Slioght Eoghan of Conmaicne-mara, Gnomore and Gnobeag in Moycullen and Slioght Mhic Diarmada Dubh.
