An early and attractive G.A.A. rulebook, issued by the Gaelic Athletic Association and containing the official Playing Rules of Football and Hurling, together with instructions for referees and umpires. Printed at the Wood Printing Works, Dublin, and issued in inexpensive format (“Irish Paper,” priced 2d.), such guides were intended for practical use and survival rates are consequently low in good condition.

The text incorporates revisions approved by Congress (notably 1925) and embodies the continuing refinement of the rules of Gaelic games in the early twentieth century. Of particular importance is the clear statement under “Number of Players” confirming the fifteen-a-side format, reflecting the codification of the modern game as it emerged in this period.

Compact, functional, and historically revealing, this handbook provides a valuable primary source for the development of both Gaelic football and hurling, as well as insight into officiating standards and match organisation.

Early standalone rulebooks of this type are increasingly scarce on the market, especially in such well-preserved condition.
