London: Sunday Chronicle, [1910]. Promotional flyer for Sullivan's autobiography to be published exclusively in the Sunday Chronicle on the eve of the Jefferies v Johnson fight. [140 x 315mm], head-and-shoulders portrait with facsimile signature, 8 paragraphs, 2 small marginal tears, otherwise a very good copy of a rare survivor.
"I shall not be afraid to speak my mind, my honest convictions and thoughts concerning the part Jeffries and Johnson are playing in the great battle between white and black." The up-coming Jeffries - Johnson fight referred to by the former world heavyweight boxing champion saw James J. Jeffries reluctantly come out of retirement to challenge Jack Johnson, the first black heavyweight champion, in what came to be known as "the fight of the Century." Jackson dominated the fight and at the end of 15 rounds Jeffries' corner threw in the towel to avoid their man having a K.O. on his record, whereupon race riots broke out across America.
