Edited by the historian and biographer Desmond Ryan, the volume presents Connolly’s writings on the 1913 Dublin Lockout, industrial unionism, the Irish Citizen Army, land reform, religion and politics, and the relationship between national freedom and social justice. Published thirty-five years after Connolly’s execution following the Easter Rising of 1916, it played a significant role in preserving and introducing his work to a new generation of readers in post-war Ireland. Today it remains one of the most accessible and enduring collections of the writings of one of Ireland’s most influential socialist thinkers and revolutionary leaders.
